Geocortex Essentials works in conjunction with core ESRI server technology to provide tools and features that dramatically reduce the time and effort it takes to create quality ArcGIS Server applications.

The vision for Geocortex Essentials is to help licensees make the most of ESRI's key development technologies for web mapping.

Geocortex Essentials 1.x was built for Web ADF. While many of the same end-users features may be required, the RESTful paradigm is very different from Web ADF development and thus required distinct solutions. Thus, we divided the product into two tracks.

REST Elements was introduced as part of version 2.0 and follows ESRI's RESTful development paradigm. This includes the Geocortex Resource Center to support developers using REST Elements. It is intentionally patterned after the ESRI Resource Center (that supports their APIs), such that development across platforms is as fluid as possible.

Fortunately, REST Elements didn't involve a rewrite of Web ADF Elements. Though initially built for use with Web ADF, the core elements of Geocortex Essentials were always engineered in an agnostic way to accommodate new technologies, so we've been able to port and reuse much of our original code.

At ArcGIS Server 10.1, ESRI will release the final version of Web ADF. REST is our default approach, but there remain some situations where Web ADF is the necessary and appropriate choice. From a technology perspective, we consider the platforms complementary and we envision many organizations will deploy mixed environments for some time. All licensees receive both Web ADF Elements and REST Elements, and there are no licensing obstacles hindering a licensee's ability to select the right technology for a given situation.

Complementing our underlying core elements, the Geocortex Essentials configuration framework architecture streamlines the process of creating, customizing and managing real-world applications for ArcGIS Server. We've made things even easier by creating a web & GUI-based Geocortex Essentials Manager application which allows total control over development—efficiently and intuitively. Thanks to our web & GUI-based Geocortex Essentials Manager, you don't have to be an experienced developer to build complete, feature-rich ArcGIS Server applications.

Installation

The installation process for Geocortex Essentials is simple and quick. Our installer streamlines the process; end to end, it takes about 10-15 minutes.
